Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms to improve their appearance. This procedure results in a slimmer, firmer, and tighter look. Loss of firmness and excess skin on the upper arms is often a result of aging. However, weight loss and genetics can also contribute to sagging in this area. In general, it is not possible to improve the firmness and aesthetic appearance of the upper arm skin by exercising or eating a healthy diet. Often, arm lift and liposuction are performed together.

It is important to know that due to the thin skin of the upper arms, the arm lift scar can be more visible than in other parts of the body.

The process of brachioplasty

General anaesthesia is used during arm lift surgery. The surgery takes about 2-2.5 hours.

Depending on the individual situation and the amount of skin and fat to be removed, incisions can be made along the entire length from the elbow to the armpit. The surgery reduces the excess hanging skin in the upper arm area, tightens the skin of the upper arm and removes the excess fatty tissue accumulated in the upper arm. If necessary, arm liposuction is performed.

Before surgery

During the consultation, the patient’s expectations are discussed.

Post-surgery period

Patients can go home the next day after surgery. It is recommended to return to work after a week or two. After the arm lift surgery, there may be pain, tenderness, anaesthesia and swelling in the upper arm area, which will subside within a few weeks. For 2 months after surgery, you should wear a compression garment – special sleeves that press against the skin of the upper arms to help reduce swelling. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for several months, and the arm lift scar should be protected from sunlight for at least six months.

Surgical risk

The risk of complications is extremely low, but adverse reactions to anaesthesia, bleeding, infection, pronounced scarring, swelling of the hands, asymmetry, difficulty in healing and suture separation, tissue necrosis and unevenness are possible. All these complications are usually avoided by following the surgeon’s recommendations after surgery.

Results

Initial results are visible immediately after the surgery, and the final result is assessed after 3 months.
