Breast reduction surgery is a surgery to reduce the size of the breasts in order to create more beautiful proportions. Although large breasts are generally considered to be an advantage for a woman’s figure, genetic causes can lead to extremely large breasts, which can cause significant aesthetic and physical discomfort. Large breasts can cause health issues like neck and back pain, spinal deformities, and skin irritations beneath the breasts.
Breast reduction not only enhances the shape and proportions of the body, it can also boost self-confidence and make everyday life easier, resolving health problems that have previously plagued you.
It is important to know that breast reduction is not recommended for women who are planning to breastfeed, as the surgery may damage the milk ducts.
Breast reduction surgery and breast lift are performed together.

The process of breast reduction surgery
General anaesthesia is used during the surgery. Breast reduction surgery usually takes about 2.5-3 hours.
During the surgery, an anchor-shaped incision is made: it goes down from the areola to the bottom of the breast and then continues in both directions under the breast. After the incision is made, some of the fat, skin and breast gland are removed. The nipple areola is also reduced and can be raised to the required height. While incision scars last a lifetime, their color usually blends with the skin tone within a year, making them less visible.
Before surgery
It is recommended to perform a breast echoscopy before surgery.
Post-surgery period
Patients can go home the day after surgery, and it is recommended to return to work after a week.
Feeling pain, tenderness, and swelling in the chest after surgery is normal and should subside within a few weeks. We provide medication to ease discomfort, both in the clinic after surgery and for use at home. For 2 months after surgery, it is recommended to wear a special bra to support the breasts. Active sports should be avoided for about 2-3 months.
The scars remaining after this surgery should be kept out of direct sunlight and the solarium for a year (until the scars are red).
Surgical risk
The risk of breast reduction surgery is not high. However, as after any other interventional procedure, complications such as bleeding, infection, pain, fluid accumulation, breast tenderness, tissue death (necrosis), extensive scarring, asymmetry and allergic reactions to anaesthesia may occur. All these complications are usually avoided by following the surgeon’s recommendations after surgery.
Results
The first results after a breast reduction and lift are immediate: the breasts become smaller and firmer, and it becomes easier to move around. Swelling subsides within 2-3 months, and the breast gland recedes within 6-12 months. The final results of the surgery are visible after about 6-12 months.
It is important to know that the results of breast reduction are long-lasting, but the size of the breasts may change with weight gain or loss. Therefore, a healthy diet and exercise are recommended to maintain the results of surgery.
