Eyelid and eyebrow lift surgery

Eyelid and eyebrow lift surgery

Eyelid and eyebrow lift surgery is performed to remove excess skin on the eyelids or drooping brows, which create a sad and tired look. In addition, drooping eyelids can also cause physical discomfort by reducing the range of vision and impairing visual function. In this case, brow lift and eyelid lift surgery improves both aesthetic and health function.

The process of eye and eyebrow lift surgery

During the eyebrow lift surgery, 4.5-5 cm long incisions are made on the head.

The tissues up to the arch of the eyebrows are separated, and the fascia – the patch that gives resistance to the tissues – is cut, and a duplicate is made with sutures. The tissues are then fixed so that the lateral corner of the eyebrows no longer droops downwards.

The upper eyelid lift is performed under local anaesthesia and takes about 1 hour. Eyelid surgery is performed by making an incision in the eyelid crease (the deepest part of the upper eyelid), removing excess skin and fat bags.

Upper eyelid lift surgery and brow lift are performed under general anaesthesia; the surgery takes about 2 hours.

Before surgery

Before eyelid surgery, the position of the eyebrows is assessed during the consultation. If the eyebrows are drooping, a brow lift and eyelid surgery is often performed together.

It is necessary to warn your doctor before eyelid and brow lift surgery if you have arterial hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, allergies, blood clotting disorders or other chronic diseases, if you smoke, if you take medicines or dietary supplements, or if you use slimming medications. We suggest you visit our pre-surgery memo page for further information.

Surgical risk

The surgical risk is not high, but adverse effects to anaesthesia, eye irritation, wound infection, bleeding, scar enlargement, and slight asymmetry may occur. Eyelid and brow lift surgery and its feedback show that these risks are extremely rare and are usually avoided by following the surgeon’s recommendations.

Smoking, obesity, chronic cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, endocrine disease and some other chronic diseases increase the risks associated with surgery.
