Liposuction

Liposuction

What is liposuction? It is the removal of excess subcutaneous fat from unsatisfactory areas of the body. This surgery can improve almost any part of the body, and can remove fat from several unwanted parts of the body in one surgery. Liposuction of the thighs, arms, chin, waist, abdomen, as well as of the legs or knees, is possible.

It is important to know that this surgery is not a treatment for overweight or obesity, which is treated with diet and exercise. Liposuction can be performed when exercise and a healthy diet fail to improve the body’s shape.

Liposuction and fat grafting are often performed together, where the liposuctioned fat is transplanted to another area of the body to be enlarged or firmed.

The process of liposuction

The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours, depending on how much fat is removed and where on the body it is applied.

During the surgery, small incisions (up to 0.5 cm in size) are made in pre-marked areas for liposuction, through which the fat is suctioned out using a VaserLipo ultrasound device. The incisions are sutured with dissolvable sutures and do not need removal. Once the wounds have healed, they leave narrow liposuction scars that are not very visible.

Before surgery

The problem areas and the scope of the future surgery are discussed during the consultation.

Post-surgery period

Patients are usually discharged the next day, but it is recommended that they return to work 7-10 days after surgery. Swelling and bruising may persist for up to 1 month. Depending on the area that has been liposuctioned, you may need to wear special compression devices such as a corset or elastic band for about 6-8 weeks. Avoid active physical activity for about 6-8 weeks after the liposuction surgery.

Surgical risk

Complications are extremely rare, but they can include bleeding, infection, pain, skin sensitivity, fluid accumulation, prolonged healing time, contour irregularities, and temporary anaesthesia. Following the surgeon’s recommendations after surgery can usually avoid all these complications.

Results

The body contour is formed, and the final result is visible after 3-4 months. However, maintaining a stable weight, exercising, and eating a healthy diet are crucial for long-term results.
