Butt augmentation with fat transfer

Butt augmentation with fat transfer

Butt augmentation with fat transfer, or Brazilian butt lift, involves removing fat from unwanted areas like the abdomen or thighs. The fat is then injected into the buttocks to enhance shape and volume. The surgery can enlarge, reshape and accentuate the buttocks, flatten asymmetrical buttocks, give them firmness, and improve the overall proportions and lines of the figure.

This kind of butt augmentation has the benefit of addressing two problems: removing excess fat in an unwanted area of the body and enlarging or shaping the buttocks. As Brazilian butt lift is performed by transplanting fat cells from the same patient, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reactions, and the result looks extremely natural.

Butt augmentation with fat transfer can help when:

  • You are not happy with the shape and/or size of your buttocks.
  • The buttocks are asymmetrical.
  • You are experiencing the loss of firmness of the buttocks due to ageing or significant weight changes.

The process of butt augmentation with fat transfer

Butt augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes 2-3 hours.

During the surgery, the first step is to suction the fat from the donor areas of the body (liposuction). During liposuction, fat is carefully extracted to preserve living cells, allowing for successful reattachment elsewhere in the body. The liposuctioned fat is specially processed and then the surgeon uses a special instrument – a cannula – to inject the fat into the buttocks in extremely small amounts. The total amount of fat transplanted can be several hundred millilitres.

It is important to know that some of the fat cells in the body usually do not survive transplantation (on average, about 30-50% of the fat survives), so hypercorrection is often performed – a larger amount of fat is transplanted. For the same reason, several surgeries may sometimes be necessary to achieve maximum aesthetic results.

Before surgery

During the consultation, the patient’s expectations are discussed.

Post-surgery period

Patients are discharged the day after surgery and can return to work within a few days.

The post-surgery period after a butt lift surgery involves healing not only of the buttocks but also of the donor part of the body from which the fat was suctioned. The liposuction is usually a well-tolerated procedure, which may be followed by bruising, swelling and numbness for about a week or two. Healing is also directly related to the amount of liposuction: the more liposuction, the more bruising and swelling may occur and the longer the healing time.

Bruising, swelling, slight pain, and tenderness are also common during the buttocks’ healing and should subside after a few weeks.Wear compression garments and avoid physical activity for two months following surgery to aid recovery. Also, avoid sleeping on your back or putting pressure on your buttocks.

Surgical risk

The risk of complications is extremely low, but bruising, bleeding or infection, contour irregularities and asymmetries are possible. All these complications can usually be avoided by following the surgeon’s recommendations after the butt lift surgery.

Results

Results are visible immediately after surgery. However, it takes 3-4 months for the buttocks to fully settle into shape.
